WAL February 27 AFTER ACTION REPORT

March 7th 2016

“The Assassin” Paul Talbott began his quest to stay on the left arm lightweight championship throne Feb. 27 at a WAL 2016 qualifier at Charlie’s Bar and Grill in Norwich, Ohio. “There was some good competition in his class, but it was basically a battle for second,” organizer Willie Reagan said. “He went through everybody like a hot knife through butter.” About 50 arms pulled at the Ohio event that Reagan said saw more new faces and a burgeoning amateur competitive class. Amateur Tony Moore is trying to go pro and qualified in the super heavyweight pro division Saturday. “He’s learning that it’s not just strength, it’s hand positioning, hand control, technique and all the leverage points and angles,” Reagan said of Moore. “He’s right on the cusp of being a decent pro.”

Out in Idaho, puller Shawn McEntire brought WAL action to Twin Falls for the first time and saw dozens of entrants and spectators take in the day’s action at TF Brickhouse. McEntire got the crowd involved via a raffle for all sorts of athletic and craftsman-related prizes. The day saw some bruising super heavyweight action between Jordan Sill and Kody Merritt. Sill beat Merrit for the top spot superheavy right, while Merritt bested his foe on the left arm. “At the left hand, Kody’s probably one of the top four or five in the country, the way he’s pulling,” McEntire said. “And Jordan Sill’s always been in the top six, seven, eight in the country.” Full results for the Ohio and Idaho qualifiers are below.
