WAL 2016 State Championship Series

August 17th 2016

It’s time to drop the hammer on the next round of WAL competition, so get those arms ready. It’s State Championship time, and that means it’s time to seek out who around you is your rival – and then go beat them.

This year will closely resemble 2016 in structure, but there are some new updates so read closely below and we’ll see you at the table!

WAL 2016 State Championship Series Format
World Armwrestling League State Championship events will feature several categories of competition:
  • Pro: men’s and women’s, right and left-handed
  • Amateur: also men’s and women’s right and left-handed
  • And a new option: First Timers
  • This is an option for anyone attending their first tournament who wants to get their feet wet in a more informal setting than a bracketed tournament.
    • Basics: $10 to enter, flat for one arm or both
    • Open to men and women
    • No formal weight classes or brackets
    • Informal matchups by general weight/size; lose twice and you’re out
  • All standard Pro and Amateur weight classes are double-elimination tournament
  • There is no Masters class
  • Each competition will determine PRO OVERALL LEFT and RIGHT HAND CHAMPIONS at each event, for men and women. The Top 3 men and women on each arm will advance to the overall round - matches are single elimination until overall winners are determined.
Progression
  • The Overall Right and Overall Left champions for men and women, Amateur and Pro, will advance to the next level of WAL competition.
Weight Classes
We will run our standard WAL weight classes. Each tournament will offer all standard weight classes for men and women, pro and amateur. They are:
Men
0-165
165-195
195-225
225+

Women
0-128
128-148
148+

If there are not enough entrants to support a full bracket, a winner will be declared and the arm wrestler moved up into the next heaviest class to compete.

Who Can Compete Where?
State Championships are only open to residents of each host state. EACH COMPETITOR MUST PRESENT A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE FROM THE STATE OF THE EVENT. No temporaries or facsimiles will be accepted.

The same applies for Canadian Provincial Champions.
