ESPN Sets Feb. 13 as Air Date for 2014 WAL Championships

January 19th 2015

The World Armwrestling League's (WAL) mammoth 2014 Championship is set to air Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 at 11 p.m. eastern on ESPN2.

The event, held in New Orleans, features dozens of the word’s best armwrestlers on the biggest stage the sport has ever seen, doing battle across a variety of weight classes for $150,000 in prize money.

After decades as a fiercely fought underground sport with a dedicated fan base, armwrestling is set to go mainstream in 2015 with ESPN. The sports network will air the 2014 championship as well as the entire 2015 WAL season on ESPN2, WatchESPN.com and its WatchESPN app.

The championship features a variety of athletes from diverse backgrounds.  Special forces soldiers, New York firefighters, high school chemistry teachers and mechanical engineers are among the "pullers" set to throw down on Feb. 13.

"Armwrestling is intense, it’s fun and requires a ton of both grit and technique," WAL founder and commissioner Steve Kaplan said. "The 2014 championship will be a must-watch event for both seasoned fans and anyone new to the sport. The intensity these competitors bring to the table just has to be seen to be believed. I promise you, if you are not a fan yet, you will be by Feb. 14."

Great news! We're currently working on an all new line of WAL gear.
