After the Action: WAL Qualifier Recap for May 7 and May 8

May 10th 2016

The World Armwrestling League’s 2016 Qualifier season headed into the homestretch with a bang last weekend, with events held across the country on May 7 and May 8. Andrew “Cobra” Rhodes threw one last Qualifier in Indiana on Sunday, May 8, while events were also held in Syracuse, New York, and Kendall, Wisconsin by longtime organizers James Reid and Steve Baldwin.

While most pullers are readying themselves for the upcoming Regional Championships, Baldwin’s event at Kickback Bar & Grill involved several pros making the long trek to Kendall to get last-minute qualifications before the next stage of battles commence. Paul Belluz and Jason Dubray, 195-pound pullers from Thunder Bay, Canada, made the long drive down to compete, Baldwin reported.

Pro division pullers also came from Minnesota and Iowa. “The quality of the people was huge,” he said. Baldwin said he was especially impressed by Dubray’s showing at the tables. “He’ll be a hard one to stop,” Baldwin said. “He’s strong and fast.” Regionals are just around the corner!
